While the results may not have worked it out, Kenta Maeda felt he was headed in the right direction on his last start.

Monday, his things were working and he had the results to back it up. After giving up a total of 12 runs in his last two starts, Maeda calmed the Rangers down in a game that got tight after his departure in the Twins’ 6-5 win on Monday at Target Field.

The Twins starter came back on track with 5 1/3 goalless innings and scored eight hits. The righty struggled in both the second and third innings and ended his outing by withdrawing eight straight batters.

He had a head start for most of his outing when the twins (11-16) took advantage of the gifts the Texas Defense gave them on Monday. There was a ball airmailed way past the third base so one run could score a goal. There was a piece on the plate that catcher Jose Trevino didn’t put a label on. There was a shaky side defense.

But the twins certainly won’t complain about that. The twins grabbed their first run in second after Rangers right fielder Joey Gallo uncorked a ball that went well past third base. Alex Kirilloff, who doubled up and tagged himself on Jorge Polanco’s flyout, scored in the game. Kirilloff was once again in the thick of the action throughout the game, doubling the win twice and scoring three runs for the team. The rookie is now in a seven-game series.

They grabbed their second run at a game on the plate when Luis Arraez sped home with a Josh Donaldson double. Arraez was initially called and jolted during the game, but retest picked up the call after Trevino failed to tag Arraez.

Arraez initially stayed in the game, smiling everyone in the dugout, but was later removed with concussion-like symptoms.

The Rangers made it tight in the later innings, scoring three runs in the eighth inning and two more in the ninth.
