Remy Gardner won in Portimao and Enea Bastianini is the new Moto2 world champion. The Italian rider reached the Portuguese GP, the last of the season, with a 14 point advantage over Sam Lowes, 18 over Luca Marini and 23 over Marco Bezzecchi. He had everything he could to win, but his rivals weren’t going to make it easy for him. Marini was placed first and started shooting while the World Cup leader lost positions.
Valentino Rossi’s maternal brother was three points behind Bastianini, who would lose the Moto2 World Championship lead if he lost again. On the other hand, Sam Lowes was third and eight behind the Italian. When he reached first position, he snatched the lead from the Italtrans Racing Team driver. Fortunately, Bastianini found an unexpected ally in Remy Gardner.
The Australian, who came from pole, passed Luca Marini with two laps to go and started shooting until the Italian had no chance of winning. The Onexox TKKR SAG team rider brought Bastianini the title on a tray with this overtaking when he took five points away from Marini. Lowes did not come from behind and Bezzecchi stayed fourth. Bastianini breathed that he would become Moto2 world champion.
Finally, Marini couldn’t catch up with Gardner and had to be content with second place. Although it wasn’t worth conquering the Moto2 championship for him, Ja kidnapped the runner-up from Sam Lowes, with whom he scored 196 points, nine fewer than Bastianini. Bezzecchi finished fourth and was excluded from the World Cup podium. The latter was the one with the heaviest of the four, and although he tried, he could not wrest the title from his compatriot.
