KOLKATA: Given the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, the Kolkata Supreme Court decided on Thursday, on the recommendation of its Covid Committee, to hold hearings in hybrid mode (both physical and also virtually) to be held at the headquarters in Calcutta and on the racing benches in Jalpaiguri and Port Blair.

A notice issued by the court states: « The proceedings will be carried out physically or virtually or in a mixture of the two modes according to the existing notices The physical appearance and questioning of witnesses in court will be postponed until after April 30, 2021.  » subject to a review of the COVID situation. « 

The notice also stated that the Court of Justice should only deal with motions, motions, authorizations of appeals and partially heard hearing matters, and that other hearing matters should be listed after the COVID review after April 30, 2021.

« Parties to the litigation are not permitted to enter the premises of the court unless they must appear in person or be summoned by the court. However, litigants are allowed limited access on the ground floor to confirm affidavits, « it said.

According to the notice, matters should be on the list of every bank except for banks that deal with bail and early filing Bail amount should be around 60.

India saw the highest single-day increase in new Covid-19 cases for the third day in a row, after over 1.31 lakh cases were reported on Friday.

According to According to the Union Ministry of Health, the country recorded 1,31,968 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours. With this new surge, the total number of infections has reached 1,30,60,542.

With 780 new Covid-related deaths in the past 24 hours, the number of victims in the country has increased to 1,67,642.

Up to 61,899 people were released or rescued on Thursday, making a total of 1,19,13,292.
