World news – Champions Dinner funny: Never doubt Phil Mickelson’s Pavlova knowledge


AUGUSTA, Ga. – The highlight of Tuesday’s Champions Dinner at the Masters is storytelling, and Phil Mickelson gave a glimpse of just how vivid some of those stories can be.

Went at dinner from Adam Scott in 2014 he was at an Australian-themed meal that included Moreton Bay Bugs, a type of Australian lobster, and a meringue-based desert called Pavlova.

« Now you can’t google this stuff because cell phones aren’t allowed, right « explained Mickelson. « I said, ‘Oh Pavlova, this is inspired by the great Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova who toured New Zealand, Australia, and an Australian chef so inspired by her beautiful movement and tutu that he had a dessert after you made. « 

Zach Johnson immediately had doubts about Mickelson. » I have a hundred dollars that say this is not right, « he said. Even then Augusta National Chairman Billy Payne, the only one at dinner who wasn’t a Masters -Champion, questioned Mickelson’s strange knowledge of the court.

« So everyone calls me on my BS. And I do BS a lot, » laughed Mickelson. « My daughter was a dancer and wrote a biography about Anna Pavlova. When I was a little girl I did 32 pavlovas for her class and I knew it. In the end, I was right, which is not often the case, but I was right at this particular moment. « 

For his menu, Dustin serves Johnson pigs in a blanket and lobster and corn donuts, house or Caesar salad, filet mignon and miso-marinated sea bass with peach cobbler / apple pie and vanilla ice cream for dessert.
