World news – Six national bosses say the French show must go on but women and U-20s are postponed

The Defiant Six Nations bosses firmly believe that despite concerns from the French authorities, the tournament will go ahead as planned after the organizers confirmed that they have strengthened the Covid-19 protocols and intend to play all games as planned continue.

The prospects for the women and U-20 tournaments are far less positive, however. Both tournaments were postponed to a later date in the year due to problems arising from the ongoing pandemic.

After the French government essentially stopped the Champions Cup for the next fortnight, it also had concerns about the future Six Nations due to the British coronavirus strain.

However, the Six Nations firmly believe they can continue and will put in additional testing to ensure the tournament can begin on February 6th. Ireland will face Wales the next day.

The French authorities will continue to monitor the situation closely and although the country’s Deputy Sports Minister Roxana Maracineanu said she needed more information before making a final decision on the games of Les Bleus could score after their first game against Italy in Rome, the organizers of the Six Nations stood firm.

They have informed the French bosses that they are confident that their strict measures will continue the tournament.

« While Six Nations rugby is closely monitoring the situation, it confirms that plans to host the Guinness Six Nations Championship for men remain as planned, » a statement said in a statement. « After the successful completion of the Guinness Six Nations and the Autumn Nations Cup 2020, Six Nations Rugby is in constant dialogue with each of its government agencies and continues to strengthen its Covid-19 protocols.

The championship begins on February 6 with Italy against France, followed by England v Scotland later that day and Wales v Ireland on February 7th.

While recent developments will boost the IRFU, the union has been disappointed with news that the Six Nations Women and U- 20 have been moved.
