Matteo Guendouzi has disclosed his decision to leave Arsenal on loan, saying he has been « injured » by the way he lost his place on the team and was expelled from the squad.
The Frenchman was forced to train with the youth team after falling out of favor with manager Mikel Arteta, who reprimanded the midfielder following his clash with Brighton’s Neal Maupay in June.
Despite escaping football federation punishment, Guendouzi’s actions – after grabbing Maupay by the throat – did not go down well with Arteta, especially after several other disciplinary issues.
After being exiled by his manager and not even forming squads on match day, all parties agreed he had to leave and he was loaned to Hertha Berlin just before the window was closed.
Since then, it has not been easy for Guendouzi to sail – his team was hammered 5-2 against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday – but the 21-year-old is happy about regular time and was discouraged by his situation at Arsenal.
« I had to have fun on the pitch to regain confidence, and Hertha offers me that. « . It really is a decision that I made, ”Guendouzi told Telefoot.
While Guendouzi still has a few years to go to finalize his deal with Arsenal, ex-player Kevin Campbell doesn’t think his relationship with the club and Arteta can be cured.
« He has no future at Arsenal. « . Mikel Arteta took him into custody after last season’s game in Brighton, and it was – custody, ”Campbell said earlier this month.
« A manager like Arteta wants to see that you can keep the line, take your sentence, keep your trap closed and get to work. Guendouzi couldn’t do it. ‘
